For the past fifteen years, I've worked out of a small studio on the Lower East Side, and I've always felt a contrast between the emotional aspirations of my work and the unassuming place where it's made. To illuminate that tension, I decided to stage a larger-than-life performance by flamenco dance legend Pilar Rioja and her company in my 300 square foot space. I invited filmmakers Eva Vives and Peter Sollett to film alongside me to see how other artists might capture this performance, and also to squeeze as many people into the room as possible. The raw footage from each of our cameras forms the basis of this single channel installation, which is presented on a small monitor divided in quadrants, with one of the quadrants left empty.
