My father wore a hearing aid, reluctantly, for most of his life, and I came to associate it with him. After he died, I cast it in gold, transforming the mundane device into a jewel-like relic. This in-progress piece will ultimately rest on a cushion of pink insulating foam set inside a vitrine constructed from Masonite — two of my father's favorite materials.
